Bilfinger UK Limited initially contacted Corrosion Protection Services in August 2019 to assist them with a Cathodic Protection Survey at Blyborough AGI as a part of a Pre-heat replacement programme. Upon completion of the site survey, it was concluded that the existing site CP system was not fit for purpose and the protection levels of the site buried pipework were not within the criteria specified in GD/PM/ECP/2.
Corrosion Protection Services and Bilfinger where then approached by Cadent to complete the design and installation of the new site CP system.

Re-lifeing CP assets is going to play a major role in the RIIO GD2 period and this project shows that Corrosion Protection Services can provide excellent technical and practical solutions to deliver these types of work with ease. Although the scope of the works suggests it was a routine project, there where obstacles encountered that made this a more complex undertaking.

The BGS mapping survey highlighted that the geology where the site is located is made up of mainly Limestone. Therefore, the design of the groundbed had to be adapted to allow for suitable installation.
